Job Summary

The Laboratory Chemist in the Feeds Department is responsible for performing chemical and physical analyses of raw materials, in-process batches, and finished feed products to ensure compliance with internal quality standards and regulatory requirements. The Chemist supports product consistency, feed safety, and process optimization by providing accurate and timely lab results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine and non-routine laboratory tests on raw materials, premixes, and finished feed products (e.g., moisture, protein, fat, fiber, ash, minerals).
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as NIR (Near-Infrared Spectroscopy), spectrophotometers, balances, ovens, and titration systems.
  • Prepare reagents, standard solutions, and samples for analysis according to validated protocols.
  • Calibrate and troubleshoot laboratory instruments as per maintenance schedules.
  • Record, analyze, and interpret laboratory data, and report deviations or non-conformance to QA/QC supervisors.
  • Assist in investigating product quality issues and implementing corrective actions in coordination with production and formulation teams.
  • Ensure strict adherence to laboratory SOPs, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and feed safety standards (e.g., GMP, HACCP).
  • Participate in internal audits, proficiency testing, and method validation when required.
  • Maintain accurate and organized lab records, logs, and reports for traceability and compliance.
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemical reagents and laboratory waste.
  • Support feed formulation team by providing input on material quality and nutritional consistency.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Animal Science, Food Science, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in a laboratory setting; experience in animal feed or food industry is a strong advantage.
  • Knowledge of proximate analysis, wet chemistry, and feed ingredient testing.
  • Familiarity with quality control processes and feed manufacturing standards.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic laboratory data systems.
