Clark, Pampanga — The Department ofEnvironment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau Region III(DENR-EMB Region III) recognized Vitarich Corporation (PSE: VITA) forits longstanding partnership and commitment to the Adopt-an-Estero/WaterbodyProgram during a recognition ceremony held in Clark, Pampanga.
Vitarich hasactively supported the program since before 2013 through regular clean-updrives and the adoption and stewardship of Sapang Alat Creek (Patubig Creek)in Marilao, Bulacan. In 2024, VITA started the bamboo planting along the creekin partnership with Bulacan State University (BulSU)- Meneses Campus.
Last year, theCompany further strengthened its environmental commitment through the launch ofthe Sagip Kalikasan Project, spearheaded by VITA Chief SustainabilityOfficer Ms. Stephanie Nicole Sarmiento Garcia. The initiative aims torehabilitate the biodiversity and ecological health of Sapang Alat Creekthrough impact-based targets with its bamboo planting activities, regular creekclean-ups, dredging efforts, and community education programs implemented inpartnership with BulSU-Meneses, Municipality of Marilao, and barangayssurrounding the waterway.
The project bringstogether government agencies, academic institutions, local communities, and theprivate sector to advance environmental stewardship, biodiversity conservation,and sustainable creek management.
To date, Vitarichand its partners have established an estimated 100 meters of bambooplantation along Sapang Alat Creek, engaged more than 100 learnersfrom three of the five adjacent barangays through environmental educationinitiatives, and spearheaded or supported three bamboo planting activitiesaimed at improving water quality, strengthening riverbank stability, andrestoring local biodiversity. The project has also established baseline soiland water quality research in collaboration with BulSU to support long-termmonitoring and guide future rehabilitation efforts.
Atty. Lilibeth Caraoaccepted the award on behalf of Ms. Garcia. “VITA recognizes theclimate-related challenges we face in our communities and have beenimplementing mitigation measures for years. We sincerely thank the DENR forrecognizing our efforts.”
During the event, Atty.Julius Degala, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer ofBulacan, emphasized the critical role of private sector participation inenvironmental protection and encouraged continued collaboration amonggovernment, communities, and businesses in safeguarding the country's naturalresources.
